Make This: Little Wooden Arrows

Inspiration comes from the most unsuspected places. I noticed these little bamboo forks at the grocery store and in an instant I knew their potential. Arrows! Fun, little wooden arrows!

Here's what you will need:
Score the arrow lines using an Exacto knife. Keep cutting until you can snap them off.
 Like this:
You then will have this:
Use a nail file (I'm serious) to sand the edges smooth.

It works like a charm!
That's all it takes! Now since you've made one, go ahead and make a few more.
Paint them, don't paint them, it's all good. Glue them to magnets, clothes pins, picture frames, the world is your oyster! Get out there and have fun deciding how you'll use yours!

Friday 5: Celebrating Simplicity

5 simple things from the week worth celebrating.

Here's to a "no iPad during the week" trial that is going well.

Here's to sparkly recital costumes.

Here's to new readers.

Here's to Throwback Thursday's becoming a thing and getting to revisit old pictures of squishy babies.

Here's to outdoor concert season being upon us.
(This is definitely not my preferred wine-drinking vessel but it will come in handy for sure!)

Cheers!
What are you toasting to tonight?

{The majority of these pictures are from Instagram. I'm charisadee if you'd like to follow along.}

Printable Lunch Box Notes

I mentioned awhile back that I have been learning Adobe Illustrator. I am still at it and set a small goal or "homework" for myself to help me use what I'm learning and more importantly stay focused and finish a project.

First assignment? A set of printable lunch box notes. Since school is almost over I included 2 notes with blank spaces where the number of days left can be written in.

I am also finding my way in the game of offering printables. I am trying out Google Docs but am also looking into Dropbox as well. In the meantime, would you let me know some feedback on how this one worked? Thanks and enjoy!

Friday 5: Celebrating Simplicity

Here's to celebrating the simple stuff too.

Here's to silly things that make you smile.
(What are these geese doing on my roof?

Here's to my little artist having a piece chosen for her school art fair.

Here's to the start of strawberry season.

Here's to my sister who is always on call and willing to help when I have shoe questions.

Here's to baseball under the lights.
(It's been a cold start, weather wise, and our boys are in a bit of a slump. Hopefully they'll find their swings again as the weather warms up!)

Cheers!
What are you celebrating tonight?
Hope you get to enjoy a little extra family time this weekend!

Reclaiming The Dining Room

We are ready for the next step in our dining room and I have cold feet. Instead of screaming, "abort!, abort!" I am going to calmly talk through this.

I have written about the dining room here and I swear I have told the story on how we got the reclaimed barn wood but I can't seem to find it. Long story short, we made a long trek to the wood guy's house, hand-picked each piece of wood in the rain and there you go. We have wood. More specifically, we have wood from a torn down dairy barn in IL. Moo.

Before the wood can go up on the wall we needed to paint the wall black. Having a dark background will help hide where the boards do not sit flush on top of one another. Remember? They are old, bumpy, and inconsistent.

(Are my cold feet why the reason why this black paint doesn't bother me? It looks good! Let's hang some moulding and call it done!)

My brother and sister-in-law have done this in their house and have been walking us through each step. After our last conversation I learned that in addition to screws, the boards are also glued onto the wall. Using glue means less screw holes, which makes sense, but also means new drywall if we don't like the end result and want to rip it down.

There are also decisions that need to be made about pattern and board size. Our boards are a mix of 6" wide and 12" wide and deciding a pattern for the wall is like one huge puzzle. Factor in the varying color of the boards and now our puzzle is even trickier. See why painting seems easier?!?

If anyone has just cause to object this dining room project speak now or forever hold your peace.

Time's a wasting. First piece is scheduled to go up on Friday night.

Just in case you have no idea what I'm talking about, here are some examples.

Make This: Pink Lemonade Slushie

My kids are always wanting something "fun" to drink so I whipped up these no brainers on Saturday night.

All you need is pink lemonade, ice, and a blender. Pour the pink lemonade and ice into the blender and whiz around until the ice is chopped up. (I told you it was a no brainer.) Make sure to clink some bottles around in the fridge and to make some fuss so everyone thinks you are working harder than you really are. Create an illusion.

To add to the fun, I jazzed it up with a fancy straw. I used some of the flowers that I found at Target's $1 Spot. Just peel the paper from the sticker part and stick it onto the straw. Easy as that. These straws would be perfect for any Spring or Summer get together.

Hope you enjoy this fun little drink that makes me think of summer! (Summer? Are you there? We're ready for you!)

Last Week

Last week I was not here because I was everywhere else. I'm still unwinding and playing catch up from an insanely busy week and weekend so enjoy some pictures from the chaos. I have some fun posts in the works and I'm looking forward to sharing them soon.

Vaughn learned about chalk that's used for the bars. Everything is dusty now.

Keeping the kids busy on a school half-day with some Urban hiking and...

giant nose picking.

Unscheduled doctor's appointment

The much anticipated Father Daughter Dance

Happy Monday!

Friday 5: Celebrating Simplicity

The simple stuff is worth celebrating too.

Here's to taking science fair projects to school and getting them out of the family room.

Here's to Vance who knows how to take my April Fools jokes.

Here's to learning Adobe Illustrator and making silly things along the way.
(Anyone remember this Kramer quote?)

Here's to 3rd grade violinists that play your wedding song.
(And enjoying the concert despite having the farthest seats possible from Vance.)

Here's to staying safe and no storm damage.
(Severe storms have been passing through for the past couple of days. The kids know when they hear the sirens to head to the basement, something I never remember doing as a kid.)

Cheers!
What are you celebrating tonight?

$1 Spot Crafting: Flowered Letter

While Beyonce's been drinkin', I've be thinkin' about what I could use these Target $1 Spot flowers for.

Have you seen these cuties? I could not resist them and threw at least 5 packs into the cart without an ounce of hesitation. I may need a $1 Spot intervention soon.

Yesterday, opportunity came knocking in the form of an ugly V that used to hang in Vaughn's room. It had been demoted to the top of her closet so I got it down, dusted it off, and knew it would be perfect for these little flowers.

To kick things off I gave it a really quick spray paint job. I wasn't going for full coverage, I just didn't want the painted lines to peek through where the new flowers overlap.

Surprise! The flowers have stickers on the back which made this quick little project even quicker.

I played with many layouts but in the end liked the monotony of the purple flowers. This project used 2 packs, minus 2 flowers, of the purple flowers which added up to a whopping $2.

A perfect addition to Vaughn's wall of chaos.

Enjoy!
